Description
Each monthly offering is based on a different theme. Explorations include: movement inspired by imagery, visualizations, imaginative play, mindfulness practices, meditation, breath work, ritual, moving as a solo / duet or as a group, drawing, building communal assemblage, eyes closed explorations, dancing to live accompaniment or a specially composed playlist, constructive rest, and exploring intentional movement as the vehicle for healing / self-discovery for the individual and community. Basic arc of the practice:
- Welcome circle & introduction to the workshop
- Tune in meditation
- Somatic warm up, visualizations and centering practices
- Improvisational movement explorations as an individual, with a partner or group
- Gratitude circle
- Closing reflections and group share
Interdisciplinary movement artist Jeremy Hahn, M.F.A. is an active choreographer, performer, and educator of dance and movement improvisation based in Los Angeles. He holds an M.F.A. in Dance from California State University, Long Beach and is currently on faculty teaching dance at Cal Poly Pomona. As an award-winning choreographer and performer he creates works of contemporary dance theatre, site-based interactive performance, immersive theatre and performance art. Notably, he has performed in works by Bill T. Jones, Doug Varone, and David Dorfman and had the pleasure of working with The Industry LA, Loretta Livingston, Lucent Dossier Experience and many others. He is a founding member of Efflorescence, a Los Angeles based performance collective who is dedicated to the collaborative process, social engagement and the creation of interdisciplinary arts events. Hahn possesses considerable experience and knowledge inspiring performing artists and contributing to the field of dance through his teaching, research, and performance.

Train: Metro terminus at 4th St/Colorado, 4 blocks away. Upon exiting the station go west on Colorado to Ocean Ave, cross the street to the Pier and turn right. We're in the park just past Broadway.
Parking: Under $2 for the first 2.5 hours in Parking Structure 6 (1431 2nd Street between Broadway and Santa Monica). On weekends at the Civic Auditorium lot at 1855 Main St it's $5 all day except during special events. Pier Deck: $10-15/day; Beach Lot 1N just north of the Pier $6-12/day. Registration (bring cash to cover material fees) In Person: Advance registration accepted at 1450 Ocean between 9am-5pm M-F & 11am-4pm Sat. Dropping in? Call 310-458-2239 to confirm availability, preferably by the Tuesday before class starts; plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of class; many classes do not allow drop ins.
Refunds/Transfers: Full refunds are given if class is cancelled before taking place - enroll online with confidence. For student withdrawals for any other reason, $15 processing fee for each multisession activity refunded; one-time classes & expended material fees are nonrefundable. Requests must be made in person, by mail, fax (310-899-0840), or email to communityclasses@smgov.net within 24 hours of first class meeting. All class dates, times, locations, and instructors are subject to change.
